Agnes M. Klein

Agnes "Aggie" Margaret Klein, 100, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on May 22, 2021, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on January 21, 1921, near Odanah, Wisconsin, to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Nebus) Girga.

In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Gustave "Gus" Alexander Klein; and her several siblings.

Agnes was born on her family's homestead and learned the virtue of hard work as a child milking cows on the family farm. At age 15, she traveled to Chicago and began her adult life as a nanny for a family there. Throughout her life, Agnes also worked as a seamstress, a maid, an aircraft riveter during World War II, and a motor winder for Westinghouse.

Agnes married Gus on September 7, 1940, when she was 19 years old. Together the enjoyed traveling, politics, and visiting their family members around the United States. Agnes always called Detroit her home and, even after moving to Ohio, she would listen to the news on a Detroit radio station. Agnes found joy in her many nieces and nephews. She lived to meet nieces and nephews from four generations who valued her hospitality, practical wisdom, and love of children.

Agnes was entombed during a small family service at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park East in Macomb, Michigan, on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Agnes family has entrusted Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus with her final arrangements.
