Betty J. Grimes, 91, of Union City, Ohio, passed to her heavenly home with Jesus on Friday, August 5, 2022, at the Union City Care Center.
She was born in Darke County on January 31, 1931, the daughter of the late Donnie and Reba (Sites) Bousman.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in the death by her son John Michael "Mike" Grimes; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Grimes; her sisters, infant Alberta Bousman, Berdena Oswalt, Ann MacDougall Rumple; her brother, Richard "Butch" Bousman; her brothers-in-law, Ray McDougall, Bill Rumple, Clyde Oswalt, and Arvis Kearns.
Betty was a 1949 graduate of the Jackson, Indiana school. Betty was active in her community. She loved to volunteer and ultimately, help others. She was the founder of the Railroad Park and the Union City Wall of History, with the help of her husband and friends. She was a member if the Union City Indiana-Ohio Preservation Society and a past member of the Chamber of Commerce. Betty was active in politics and was a loyal republican. She served on the Village Council, a member of the Darke County Republican Party, and was recognized, with her husband, in 2022 as the Darke County Republican of the Year.
Above everything, family was the most important thing to Betty. She loved to spend time with her husband, sons, grand and great grandchildren. Being with them were her happiest moments.
Betty is survived by her husband of 71 years, John H. Grimes, whom she married on April 28, 1951; her son, Bill (Kim) Grimes of Columbia, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Tia (Stuart) Stevens, John Grimes, and Song Angela (Jayson) Busbee; her great grandchildren, Lauryn, Gabrielle, Aaron, Mi Young, Jordyn, and Hannah; her sister, Jenny Kearns of Russell Springs, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
A celebration of Betty's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.
Guests may visit with Betty's family on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
