Billy Joe Abney, 79, of New Madison, passed away on December 11, 2013 at his residence. Bill was born on February 1, 1934 in Rock Castle County, Kentucky to the late Walter Lee and Reca Christine (Baker) Abney.
Bill worked at Ludy's Greenhouse in the construction department. He loved Bluegrass music, classic cars, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Anglin) Abney; a son, Jeffery A. Abney, and brothers, Melvin, Danny and Garnett Abney.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Byrd) Abney; a son, Stephen and Valerie Abney of New Madison; a daughter, Karla and Dave Hornbeck of Walton, Kentucky; a step son, Lewis Willis of Punta Gorda, Florida; a step daughter, Beverly Willis of New Madison; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann and Josiah Peeples, Ashley Nicole and Brian Bolin, Brittani Lynn Abney, Breanna Leigh Abney, Jeffrey Michael Hornbeck, Sarah Barth and Kritopher Willis; great grandchildren, Isabella Lee and Alison Ann Hornbeck; four brothers, Tonny and Mary Ann Abney of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John and Peggy Abney of Cedar Grove, Indiana, Walter and Debbie Abney of Berea, Kentucky and Lanny and Marilee Abney of Oxford, Ohio; two sisters, Ann Morrison of Englewood, Ohio and Clara Dean Kenzel of Bradenton, FL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Braund Pope Funeal Home in New Madison, Ohio with Rev. Tracy Brown officiating. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 11 -1 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. The family requests memorial contributions be given to Darke County Cancer Society.
