Carl J. Hoening

Carl J. Hoening, 83, of Gettysburg, OH passed away Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2011 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville. He was born in Burkettsville, OH on October 11, 1927, son of the late Paul A. and Rosa (Hart) Hoening.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hoening. Carl was a veteran of the US Army having served in occupied Japan following WWII.  He retired in 1990 from New Idea, Coldwater, Ohio where he worked as a welder for many years. He was also a milkman for several years in the Union City area.  He was an honorable man who instilled the love and respect he had for nature in all of his children.  Carl was an avid horseman in his youth.  He loved deer hunting with his sons in Southern Ohio and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association of America.  Above all else he loved God and cherished his family and the time spent with them. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Hipsher) Hoening; children, Herb (Connie Barnhardt) Hoening of Versailles, OH, Kathy (Larry Wiist) Myers of Greenville OH, Dan (Katrina) Hoening of Ansonia, OH, David Hoening of Versailles, Jim (Cheryl) Hoening of Lake Placid, FL, Mark Hoening of Greenville, Ed (Tammy) Hoening of Greenville, Amy Ritchie of Summerville, SC, Julia (Michael) Crosby of Greenville, OH; grandchildren, Darin (Tonya) Seiber, Emily (Adam) Burke, Rachel Hoening, Matthew (Julie) Whittington, Elizabeth (Matthew)  Engle, Ben Whittington, Alyssa Crosby, Melissa (Ron) Miller, Jason Hoening, Travis Hoening, Danielle (Doug) Myers, Bonnie Hoening, Pennie (Sean) Hoening-Wolf, Jamie (Matthew) Yeager, Lacy Hoening, Rebecca (Greg) Baker, Sarah Hoening, Amanda (Stephen)  Moultrie, Brenn Ritchie; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Margaret) Hoening of New Weston; sisters, Ruby (George) Monnier of Houston, OH, Madonna McCarthy of Dayton, OH, Joan Helton of West Milton; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 15,  at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, OH. Burial with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the St. Bernard Church Cemetery in Burkettsville. The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Friday, January 14, from 6-8 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. till 10 a.m.   The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Farm Safety 4 Just Kids.
