Carol Royer

Carol Moses Royer, 97, of Arcanum, Ohio, was born to Roy and Isabelle Moses in Ingomar, Ohio, on July 1, 1924. She passed away after a brief illness at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio, on December 30, 2021, surrounded by family.

Carol attended Lanier School and graduated from Monroe Central High School. In her teenage years, Carol's family moved to a farm in the Eldorado, Ohio area, where she helped raise tobacco and run the family milk route. It is while running the family milk route, Carol met her husband of 68 years, Melvin Royer. At the time of their marriage, Carol and Melvin were gifted, by Carol's parents, a cow named Margie, who blessed Carol and Melvin with twin calves. That was the beginning of the many blessings Carol and Melvin experienced in their life together.

Carol farmed with her husband, plowing the ground, planting, and harvesting the crops. She helped with the cattle, hogs, and chickens on the farm. Carol always raised a garden that would supply the family with food for the coming year. She worked hard her entire life.

But the most important part of Carol's life was the way she created a "beautiful family". She taught her children the value of love, respect, and hard work. As children, Carol taught her daughters the life skills of canning and gardening. She taught her son the beauty of nature and skills of hunting, fishing, and trapping. Carol was an active member of Yankeetown Church, where she worshipped every Sunday. For Carol, faith, family, and farming were the most important parts of her life.

Carol taught her grandchildren the value of love and respect. Carol loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. When any of the grandchildren walked in the room, Carol's face would light up. She often talked about what a beautiful family she had.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Linda Benham of Richmond, Indiana, and Kathy (Terry) Roberts of Arcanum, Ohio; her son, David (Kathy) Royer of Greenville; her 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her daughter, Susan Hora; and her grandson, Jimmy Benham. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Isabelle Moses; and her siblings, Howard Moses, Amy Baughman, Mary White, Bob Moses, Joan Baughman, Ginny Mowen and Jimmy Moses.

A celebration of Carol's life will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.

Guests may visit with Carol's family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.
