Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward

Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward, 87, of Eldorado, passed away on November 11, 2009, at the Hospice of Dayton. Carrie was born on June 19, 1922 daughter of the late Earl and Viola Hawkey.

Carrie retired as a head cook for the CR Coblentz School District. She was a member of the ETA PI KAPPA Sorority andenjoyed bowling, reading, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Ray Ward on June 28, 1941.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carrie is preceded in death by a son, James Ward and a son-in-law, Larry Shaffer.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Linda Shaffer of Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Diana Ward of New Madison; four grandchildren, Sherri (Randy) Sparks of Richmond, Julie (Brian) Sandlin of Richmond, Jon Ward (special friend Valerie Tegmeyer) of Greenville and Keith (Stephanie) Ward of Enon; eight great-grand children, Kevon Sparks, Ashlei Sparks, Brian Sandlin, Jr., Tyler Sandlin, Katalina Ward, Johnene Ward, James Ward, Logan Ward; one brother, Carl “Bud” (Juanita) Hawkey of New Madison.

Visitation will be from 6:00– 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Dayton.
