Dorothy Anna Hiatt

August 2, 1930 — September 14, 2024

Dorothy Anna Hiatt, age 94 of Palestine, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

She was born on August 2, 1930 in Eaton, Ohio to the late Virgil and Marie Foreman. 

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Duane Hiatt; and her siblings, James Foreman, Helen Unum, Margaret Hoffman, Charles Foreman, and Reva Poling.

Those left to cherish Dorothy's memory include her children, Teresa Via of Greenville, Cheryl (Tom) Purdy of Palestine, Curtis (April) Hiatt of New Madison, and Sonya (Scott) Hill of Hollansburg; sister, Patty Jenkins; grandchildren, Mindi (Joshua) Ashworth, Michelle (Amy) Waters, Casey (Benjamin) Rife, Kelly (Justin) Everhart, Joshua (TJ) Hiatt, Jason Hiatt, Amy (Jarred) Lewis, Noah Hill, and Phoebe Hill; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

Dorothy graduated from Hollansburg High School. She worked for 40 years at Downing Fruit Farm. Dorothy had such a caring heart, taking care of many family members. She had a passion for singing, yodeling, and playing the harmonica. Dorothy belonged to Hollansburg Christian Church where she sang in the choir and attended Northside Church of Christ in Richmond, IN. Some of her childrens fondest memories, especially Sonya, were going to choir practice with mom and sitting on the floor between her legs while she sang. Her love for music was passed on to her children and they grew that passion throughout their lives as well. Dorothy was known for being Tri-Village's biggest basketball fan, she made sure she was at every game possible. She also was a big Cincinnati Red's baseball fan. Dorothy belonged to the American Legion post 107 Women's Auxiliary in Hollansburg. She had a passion for gardening and cooking, she passed her love for cooking onto her daughter Teresa. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Village Athletics. Please make checks payable to Tri-Village Athletics, Tri-Village Athletic Department PO Box 31 New Madison, OH 45346 and specify on the check that it is a donation in memory of Dorothy Hiatt.

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.

A funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Hollansburg Christian Church with Pastor Christian Penrod and Pastor Jeorgene Poling Gaddy officiating. 

Interment will follow the funeral service at Palestine Cemetery.
