Ernest "Bud" Cooper, 93, of Arcanum, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014, at the Brethren Retirement Community.
He was born October 15, 1920, in Parnell, Kentucky, a son the late Ernest Pascal and Fannie (Sandusky) Cooper. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Marion (Hanes) Cooper; a daughter Nancy (Jeff) Farris of Brighton, Missouri; two grandchildren Edward (Erin) Cooper of Orange, California and Timothy (Lauren) Cooper of Portland, Oregon; two great grand-daughters, Emily and Evie Cooper; and daughter-in-law Nancy Cooper of Greenville. He is preceded in death by his son, William Hanes Cooper.
While being stationed in England, Bud served with the 56th Airborne Division during World War II and later during peacetime achieved the rank of Major in the Air Force Reserves. As a veteran, he graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950 and worked at Wright Patterson Air force Base until his retirement in 1980.
In the community, he was active as a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Arcanum, the Arcanum Lions Club and the Edison Community College Board of Trustees.
Funeral services, with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Oliver-Floyd funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Ithaca Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1pm until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Arcanum Lions Club or State of the Heart Hospice.
