Grant Lee Malone

Grant Lee Malone, age 92, went to be with his wife, Bobbie, and with his Lord on June 15, 2009 at Reid Hospital, where he had been a patient for ten days. He was born in Lucasville, Ohio on April 29, 1917, the son of the late Walter Everrett and Blanche (Dill) Malone and had lived in the local area for over 35 years having moved here from Lucasville, Ohio. Grant was commonly known as “Mr. Buckey” and “Chicken Man” due to his passing out Buckeyes to all he met and his love for poultry and water fowl. He was a well known poultry judge having judged in the United States, Canada and Bermuda since 1957. He was a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church, and the New Madison Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the New Zealand Rabbit Breeders Assn., the American Bantham Assn., former President of the American Bantham Assn., former District Director of the Ohio Jersey Cattle Club, life member of the Duroc Swine Assn., a member of the Lucasville Masonic Lodge 4261 F & AM, a 4-H Club Director for 25 years and served on the Hocking County Fair Board for 10 years. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Tri-Village Patriot teams.
Grant was a well-known Livestock Feed salesman in the local area and worked for the Storch Braund Funeral Home for over 18 years, retiring in 1998. He was also well known for his gardening skills.
Grant is survived by two sons, Joseph Lee Malone and wife Jo Ann of Lancaster, Ohio and Frederick Grant Malone and wife Terri of Marion, Ohio; three grandchildren, Sean and wife Sue Malone, Kelly Jo and husband Tom Barnhart, and Robert and wife Brittany Malone; six great-grandchildren, Morgan and Austin Barnhart and Sydney, Patrick, Aidan and Cameron Malone; a brother, Walter Malone, Jr. of Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, especially close friends, Keith and Arlene Hicks and Jane and Delbert Braund.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Bobbie; brothers, Paul, Joseph, and Albert; and two sisters Ruth Jones and Dorothy Vetters.
Visitation for Grant will be held on Friday evening, June 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Storch Braund Funeral Home , 215 East Washington St., New Madison, OH. Services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 20th at the New Madison United Methodist Church at 149 North Main St., New Madison with Pastor Steve Hayes asked to officiate . Burial will follow at the Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.
