Harold Leon Oswalt, 89, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Union City, OH, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville. Born near Union City, Ohio on May 14, 1921, Harold graduated from Jackson Twp. School where he was a four year member of the varsity basketball team. After graduation he trained as a machinist at National Cash Register Company and worked for NCR until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a medical technician at the 346th general hospital in England and served there more than two years. After military service he went into farming and was later a die setter at Westinghouse Electric in Union City for 26 years. He met Mary Louise Owen at the Sweet Shop in Union City and they married on August 8, 1942; she survives. After retirement he spent four years as a volunteer at the Triple C School on Grand Cayman Island. He was a member of Union City, Ohio Evangelical United Methodist Church and the Greenville American Legion. Also surviving are his daughters, Diane (Ronald) Caudill of Fort Wayne, and Cathy Kelly of Gas City; sons Von Oswalt of Greenville and Tim (Theresa) Oswalt and Paul (Melissa) Oswalt of Union City, OH; twelve grandchildren Greg Whitenack and Cindy (Brad) Burkhart of Fort Wayne, Jeri (Chris) English of Somerset, KY; Ty (Valerie) Oswalt, Kelly Oswalt, Jason (Josie) Dickey, Alyssa (Brent) Sloan; Edward (Tiffany), William, and Heather Oswalt, Shannon (David) Condon, Adam (Kimberly) Oswalt all of Ohio; twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents William H. and Hazel Bateman Oswalt and sister Mary Ellen Brewer. Services will be held Wednesday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Union City. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia. The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH Tuesday, June 1 from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. at the church.
