Helen F. Eley, 90, of Greenville, and formerly of Ansonia, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Wayne Health Care. She was born May 17,1927 in Winchester, Virginia, to the late E. E. Strosnider and Ruth (Hook) Fishel.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her step-father, A.J. Fishel; her husband, William E. Eley in 1985; her sister, Clarice "Dixie" Strosnider; and her sister-in-law, Melissa Strosnider.
Helen was a 60-year member of the Ansonia American Legion Post #353, where she held various officer positions. She was a long-time member of the Darke County Humane Society and Darke County Farm Bureau. Helen was a 1947 graduate of Ansonia High School and was in the Ansonia Marching Band where she was the first female band major. Helen started working for the telephone company in Ansonia, where she was a switchboard operator. After the Ansonia location closed, she was transferred to work at the United Telephone Company in Greenville where she retired in 1986. She enjoyed helping her husband on the family farm. She loved to make crafts, go fishing, photography, gambling, shopping and travel to visit her family. She loved to go to Grand Lake St. Mary's with her family. Helen and her husband enjoyed going to the races at Eldora Speedway. She was very commited to attending the Darke County Fair, having not missed a single year. Helen was a very caring individual, she would help her friends by taking them to their necessary appointments and helped them out financially. Those that knew Helen, knew her as a strong and outspoken woman to the end!
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Galen) Miller of Palestine; her brother, Carlton "Sam" Strosnider of New Weston; her granddaughter, Miss Daisy; her beloved cats, Jasper and Sammi; and her special friends, Melody Tuthill, Breanna Tuthill, George Champ, Gene, Shirley, Jason Hixenbaugh and Carla Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside Celebration of Life service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow at a later date in Teegarden Cemetery.

Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home, State of the Heart Care, and Wayne Health Care for all the love and support that was given to her during her illness.
