Helen M. Eley, 89, of Ansonia passed away late Sunday evening, October 7 at the Versailles Health Care Center where she was lovingly cared for the past 8 years. She was born August 5, 1918 in Jay County, IN, daughter of the late Albert and Orpha (Money) Moore. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Eley; a daughter, Ilene VanDeGrift; a brother, Forrest Moore and a sister Ruby Huerkamp. A homemaker, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Helen was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church and formerly atteneded at the Nashville and Rossburg Methodist Churches. She enjoyed visiting with family, always having room at the table for more. Her hobbies included crocheting and playing cards, teaching her grandchildren how to play at young ages. She could be seen riding her bicycle all over Ansonia well into her later years, often balancing her lawn chair on the front, rarely missing a little league game. She is survived by 4 daughters, Irene (Marion) Whittaker of Greenville; Phyllis (Tim) Barga of Greenville; Wanda (Richard) Burke of Ansonia and Pamela J. (John) Snyder of Ansonia. 12 grandchildren, Cary (Kelly) VanDeGrift of Greenville; Gayle (Greg) Ruwe of Columbus; Barbara (Barry) Bolyard of Greenville; David (Heidi) VanDeGrift of Grand Rapids, MI; Cathy (Don) Kowaleski of Springboro; Tony (Teresa) Whittaker of Belgin, IL; Suzanne (Bud) Williams of Tipp City; Michael (Karen) Burke of Rossburg; Dwanna (David) Rutter of Greenville; Tech Sgt. Jacob (Rabbia) Barga of South Korea; Ryan (Micheal) Baker of Xenia and Brook (Christy) Baker of Greenville. 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Cletus Moore of Portland, IN; and a son-in-law, Faren G. VanDeGrift of Sarasota, FL. Services will be held Thursday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Joe Royer officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. Friends may call at the the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Ansonia Area Rescue.
