James B. Thwaits, 76, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2012 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born October 27, 1935 in Rossburg, son of the late Basil K. and Velma (Schlechty) Thwaits. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, William and Patrick Thwaits. Jim was the owner of the former Thwaits Floor Fashions in Greenville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville. He was also a member of the Greenville Elk's Lodge, Rotary Club of Greenville, the United Methodist Men and formerly the Greenville Schools Athletic Boosters. He was instrumental in obtaining the Green Wave Fire Truck and the signal cannon used at home football games. He had coached the Thwaits baseball team as well as being an avid golfer and enjoyed softball. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol L. (Holzapfel) whom he married July 31, 1954; children, Debbie (Stuart) Powell, Jim (Kelly) Thwaits,  John Thwaits, and William Thwaits; 9 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 23 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Ft. Jefferson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Parkinson's Association or Wings of the Morning through the First United Methodist Church.
