Jean Ellen Michael

Jean Ellen Michael, 90, of New Madison and Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on August 30, 1931, in Miamisburg, Ohio, to the late George and Nellie (Shivler) Jay.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Jean was a graduate of New Madison High School and she attended United Methodist Church in New Madison for over 40 years. She worked at Corning Glass, retiring after 25 years of service. Jean loved her family and enjoyed preparing meals for family get-togethers and holidays. She loved making cookies for her grandkids and made sure to have the freezer stocked for when they would come visit. She was meticulous when it came to her lawn, and you would find her mowing it several times a week. She always enjoyed driving her car, and enjoyed the freedom and independence that came with it. She looked forward to the Great Darke County Fair and always made sure to get some sugar waffles.

Jean is survived by her children, Rick (Jo) Michael of Troy, Ohio, Terry (Georgia) Michael of New Madison, and Penny Hughes of Brookville, Ohio; her 10 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.
