John P. Labig, 70, of Greenville, passed away Sunday morning, August 17, 2008 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born in Vandalia, OH son of the late Ralph E. and Pauline (Wehneman) Labig. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother, Dorothy Labig. John was a 1955 graduate of Versailles High School. He retired from New Idea in Coldwater and had spent most of his life farming in the Ansonia area. He was a member of the Salem Church of God in Dayton and the church choir. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol L. (Riegle) Labig, whom he married December 7, 1957; a son, Scott (Rise") Labig of Greenville; a daughter, Sarina (Nelson) Ball of Covington, KY; 2 grandchildren, Tyler Ball and Preston Labig; a sister, Janice Labig of Dayton; a step brother, John Schlimmer of Greenville; and two step sisters, Marilyn Dohme of Piqua and Shirley Huddle of Versailles. Services will be held Thursday, August 21 at 10 a.m. at the Ansonia First Church of God with the Revs. Lee Wallace and Paul Strozier co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 20 From 6-9 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Ansonia Rescue or the Ansonia First Church of God.
