Judy C. Varvel, 83, of Greenville and formally of Hollansburg, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Sterling House in Greenville. She was born June 22, 1925 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada to the late Eitaro and Tami (Shibata) Sasaki.
Judy was a nurse for Reid Hospital in Richmond for 24 years. She graduated from the Dayton School of Practical Nursing in 1962 and a graduate of the Toronto Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. Judy was a member of the Hollansburg Christian Church, a 32 year member of the Eagles, the Eastern Star,Moose Lodge, the American Legion where she played the piano for all these organizations and was a life member of the VFW. Judy was known as the oldest, active line dancer in Darke County and the Piano Lady.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Newton E. Varvel whom she married on October 6, 1948 and a sister Hanako Emori.
Judy is survived by two daughters, Donna and husband Don Fourman of Arcanum and Judy and husband John Burton of Troy; two sons Albert and wife Marlene Varvel of Mansfield and Newton and wife Anna Varvel of Hollansburg; ten grandchildren, Ryan Brandenburg, Shawn Brandenburg and Jeremy Brandenburg, Leann Wiford, Shane Varvel, Dusty Varvel, Dawn Swick, Meagan Varvel, Nicky Varvel, and Lauree Swihart; thirteen great grandchildren; and a sister Takiko Sasaki of Shigaken, Japan.
Services will be held on 10;00 a.m.Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Hollansburg Christian Church in Hollansburg, Ohio with the Rev. Joe Hanna being asked to officiate. Family and Friends may call on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. at the Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison, Ohio.
