Kenneth “Ken” D. Farmer, 63, of New Madison, passed away on October 24, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Ken was born on July 7, 1945 in Greenville, Ohio son of Willard P. and Helen N. (Spencer) Farmer.
Ken lived in the local area his whole life. He was employed with NCR and Electraform in Montgomery county and most recently facilities supervisor for the Tri Village School Systems in New Madison, Ohio. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He devoted his life to community service as a member of the New Madison Fire Department, Tri Village Rescue Squad, former president of village council, former president of the village water board and was a member of the Castine Church of the Brethren.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Gail (Butts) Farmer; a daughter Michelle “Shelli” and husband Tim Shahan of New Madison; two grandsons, Alex and Carson Shahan; two sisters, Carolyn and husband Marvin Miller of Florida and Esther and husband Kent Winterrowd of California; four brothers, Robert and wife Linda Farmer of Greenville, Richard and wife Ann Farmer, Mark and wife Carmy Farmer both of Arcanum, Denny and wife Linn Farmer of Florida and Jim and wife Clara Jo Farmer of New Madison; a sister-in-law Marene Farmer of New Madison; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister Martha Emerick and brother Terry Farmer.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Castine Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 with Bob Farmer and Eric Laux being asked to officiate. Friends may call on the family from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Castine Church of the Brethren on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.
Family ask that memorial contributions be made to Darke County Cancer Society or the New Madison volunteer fire department, donations being received at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.storchbraundfuneralhome.com. .
