Lowell Eugene Hofacker

November 27, 1928 — July 30, 2008

Lowell Eugene Hofacker, 79, of New Madison, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. He was born November 27, 1928, in Darke Co. son of the late Albert & Kathryn Treva (Clark) Hofacker. He also was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn, his brother Leon Hofacker, his sister Kate Cowgill, Marilyn’s parents, Bob and Lucille Gilfillan, and his brother-in-law, Dwane Gilfillan. Gene worked for Avco for 27 years, Argosy Manufacturing, Cardinal Tool, and then Tri-Village Schools, where he drove a school bus until his retirement. Gene is a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. Gene loved spending time with his family. His favorite pastimes included following his grandkids’ sports activities, camping in his Argosy camper, and watching horse racing with friends. Gene is survived by two sons, Kent and wife Becky Hofacker of Brownstown, Indiana, and Kris Hofacker of Winterpark, Florida; two daughters, Joy and husband Jim Moore of West Milton, Ohio; and Jill and husband Bill Moore of Hollansburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Brittani and husband Brad Hampton, Brandon and wife Meggan Moore, Brennan Moore, Chuck Ditty, Craig Ditty, and Jenna Moore; four great grandchildren, Justin Ditty, Danielle Ditty, Alyssa Ditty, and Caleb Ditty; his brother Robert Hofacker; sister Carolyn Irvine; sisters-in-law Martha Gilfillan, Marjorie McNeal and husband, Mick, brother-in-law Larry Gilfillan and spouse Karol, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and all the other youth who called him “Grampa Gene”. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the Cedar Grove Church on Love Road in southern Darke County. Calling hours will be Friday, August 1, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 PM also at the Cedar Grove Church. Services will be officiated by Rev. Jim Vandermark and Tony Thomas. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Cedar Grove Church or to the State of the Heart Hospice in Greenville.
