Mary E. Brown

Mary E. Brown, 82, of Castine, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Laurelwood Assisted Living in Centerville, Ohio.

She was born on January 6, 1942, in West Carrollton, Ohio, to the late James and Esther (Payne) Sorrell.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Kristopher Shelton; and her siblings, Bertha Crone, and James “Jimmy” Sorrell.

Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Maurice Brown, whom she married on April 30, 1960; her children, Teresa (William) Collins of Castine, Wayne (Wilma) Brown of Ithaca, and Trina (Douglas) Williams of Arcanum; her 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Nola Harmon of Piqua, Johnny Sorrell of Spring Valley, Ohio, Patty Thacker of Miamisburg, Ohio, and David Sorrell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Mary worked for Cedar Springs, now known as Foundations, for over 14 years as a trainer and in Human Resources. She also served as the mayor of Castine for 8 years. In her free time, Mary enjoyed going to the casino, watching Elvis movies, and listening to Elvis music. She also enjoyed watching hummingbirds.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery.

Guests may visit with Mary’s family on Monday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service at 3:00 PM.
