Mary T. Folkerth, 72, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away March 22nd, 2023, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana.
Mary was born on August 30, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Samuel and Gloria (Kane) Rhoads.
She was a 1968 graduate of Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pennsylvania. After high school Mary earned a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Villanova University and then matriculated from the University of Pennsylvania with her Master's Degree. She had a love for nursing and a love for teaching and spent a majority of her career in higher education. She began her teaching career at Temple University and accepted a position as an Associate Professor of Nursing at Indiana University East, where she spent nearly 30 years inspiring and equipping the next generation of nurses with the skills, compassion, and competency to take care of their patients.
The only thing Mary loved more than teaching was her family and her service and dedication to the Lord. She married her one true love, David, in 1976 and he was able to convince her to trade the bustling city life in for an 80 acre farm where they raised their two children, Kurt and Leesa. While she was full of humility, she would never miss an opportunity to share about the success of her children. She was an active and dedicated member of Cedar Grove Church. She served those around her and always demonstrated the love of Christ with those she encountered.
She is survived by her son, Kurt (Gia Guzman) Folkerth of Beaverton, Oregon, and her daughter, Leesa (Justin) Huntington of Husdon, Ohio; her grandchildren, Harrison, Henry and Eleanor Huntington; her brothers, Samuel M. (Dawn) Rhoads IIII, William K. (Donna) Rhoads and Robert D.(Dona) Rhoads and her sister, Grace M.(Dan) Conners; her brother-in-law, Jaime (Carol) Folkerth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, David J. Folkerth, whom she married on November 22, 1976.
