Paul Leon Smiley

Paul Leon Smiley, 96, of Union City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the EverHeart Care Center in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born on October 3, 1926, in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late Gerald and Lola (Castle) Smiley.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Hindsley) Smiley, whom he married on November 28, 1948; his children, Phillip Smiley and Margaret (Joe) Brown; his siblings, Bob (Jennetta) Smiley, David (Diane) Smiley; his brothers-in-law, Danny Green and James Bake

Paul is survived by his children, Paulette (Jon) Hinkle of Union City, Indiana, Melanie (Bruce) Warner of Gloucester, Virginia, and Lori (Scott) Goubeaux of Greenville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jill (David) Skye of Greenville, Ohio, Joseph Brown of Brownsburg, Indiana, Cory Brown of Champaign, Illinois, Drew Warner of Virginia, and Haley (Ray) Orosco of El Paso, Texas; his great grandchildren, Tayler (Isaac) Armstrong, Logan Skye, Grace Skye, Raymond Orosco, and Skylar Warner; his great great granddaughter, Ophelia Armstrong; his siblings, Martha Bake of Lynn, Indiana, Stan (Connie) Smiley and John (Karen) Smiley, all of Saratoga, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was a graduate of McKinley High School. He worked for the Union City Body Company and was a heavy equipment operator. Paul was a loving and forgiving husband and father. He was a hardworking and honest man. But above all, he was a devout family man. In his free time, Paul enjoyed completing word searches, visiting his family, and spoiling his special pet, Annie.

Paul will be laid to rest, with his wife, during a private graveside service at Lisbon Cemetery, Union City.
