Reba H. (Thurston) Wood

Reba H. (Thurston) Wood, 94, of Greenville and formerly of New Madison, went to be with her Lord on December 12, 2010 while at the Brethren Retirement Community. Reba was born on October 15, 1916 to the late Dorsey E. and Belva N. (Study) Thurston.

Reba was a 1934 graduate of Williamsburg High School. She was a longtime member of the New Madison United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 50 years. Reba loved children and hundreds of kids learned about Christ’s love through her dedication. Reba also volunteered for Wayne Health Care for many years.

In addition to her parents, Reba was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in June, 1981, brothers Emerson, Herbert, Robert, Leland Thurston and two sisters, Delia Benner and Jeanette McElwain.

Reba is survived by two sons, David (Roxanna) Wood of Enon, Ohio and Larry (Linda) Wood of New Madison; a sister, Elsie Schultz of Beulah, Colorado; a brother, Ernest Thurston of Oneco, Florida; a brother-in-law, John Wood of Clayton, Delaware; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive guests on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 3 – 7 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM also at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Hayes being asked to officiate.
