Robert W. Boyd, Sr., 97, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
He was born on October 29, 1926, in Winchester, Indiana, to the late John and Lucille (Campbell) Boyd.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Peg" E. (Mendenhall) Boyd, whom he married on July 12, 1947 and who passed away on April 28, 2000; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Fran) Boyd, Jr.; his infant sister, Betty Boyd; his siblings John Junior (Florance) Boyd, Ruth (Bill) Reigle, George (Mary) Boyd, Mary Alice (Jay) Cash, Charlie (Betty) Boyd, James "Jim" (Pat) Boyd; his brothers-in-law, Duke Retz, Jim Myers, and Ralph Henizer.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Gloria (Steve) Bohn of Greenville, Ohio, and Debbie (Dwight) Warner of Arcanum, Ohio; his grandchildren, Robert (Julie) Boyd, III of Arcanum, Ohio, Paul (Tracy) Boyd of Texas, Bridget (Mike) Haney of Piqua, Ohio, Christi (Curt) Bohn of California, Stephanie (Mark) McConachie of New Paris, David Bohn of Miamisburg, Sarah (Eric) Eley of New Madison, Chad (Michelle) Warner of Arcanum, Alicia (Brock) Rhymer of Colorado, April (Travis) Coover of Texas; his 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Rosanna "Tiny" Retz of Winchester, Indiana, Beverly "Pedad" Myers of Portland, Indiana, Patty Lou Henizer of Portland, Indiana,
Shortly after starting his high school career, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Stanton during World War II, until he was honorably discharged. Robert was a jack of all trades and was an self-employed carpenter. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, collecting stamps, woodworking, and playing cards. Robert also liked to play the guitar. Robert was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 140, the Greenville VFW Post 7262, the Darke County Honor Guard, and Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church.
A celebration of Robert's life will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Guests may visit with Robert's family on Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church.
