Roscoe “Charles” Smallwood, 85, of New Paris passed away on September 21, 2009. Charles was born on April 29, 1924 in Bellepoint, Kentucky to the late Milard and Lona (Spicer) Smallwood. Charles was a Veteran serving honorably in the Army during WWII. Charles worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years and was a member of Local UAW 103. He was a hard worker and loved crane operating. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his three siblings, Victor Smallwood, Alvin Smallwood and Violet Barnes. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris (Knox) Smallwood and four sons; Steve and Kathy of New Paris; Randy and Mary of Richmond; Rick and Denise of Richmond; and Kevin and Andrea of New Paris; 9 grandchildren, Lisa (Rick) Wright, Amy Smallwood, Lore (Cary) Bishop, Mark (Kelly) Smallwood, Melissa (Tom) O’Neal, Michael Smallwood, Stayce (Adam) Cline, Brian (Nicole) Smallwood, and Courtney Smallwood; and 10 great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Pam Weaver being asked to officiate. Burial will follow in the Springlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Paris United Methodist Food Pantry. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.storchbraundfuneralhome.com.
