Walter "Walt" W. Poetsch, Jr.

December 10, 1945 — December 13, 2024

Greenville, Ohio

Walter “Walt” W. Poetsch, Jr, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024.

He is survived by his loving children, Ryan Poetsch and his wife Joanna of Ewa Beach Hawaii. Molly Pizzino and her husband Dan of Westerville Ohio; and Maura Poetsch of Lewis Center Ohio. Walt is also survived by his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Kathie Poetsch of Worthington Ohio; his sister, Patricia Ferrell and husband Art, of Ocala Florida; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Walt was born on December 10, 1945, in Copiague, New York, to the late Walter W. Poetsch, Sr. and Marjorie (Krause) Poetsch. Walt was a proud and devoted grandfather to Cole, Chase, and Maverick Poetsch; Matthew, Jacob, Emma, and Dominic Pizzino; and Avery Poetsch. He also embraced his bonus grandchildren, Jordan and Jaedyn Amalato, with the same love and pride.

A 1963 graduate of Medina High School in Medina, Ohio, Walt continued his education at Defiance College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business. He went on to build a successful career as a sales manager at Ludy Greenhouse in New Madison, Ohio, where he worked for many years before retiring.

Walt’s greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren, who never failed to bring a smile to his face. He treasured every moment spent watching them play sports and sharing in their accomplishments. Though Darke County was always “home,” Walt looked forward to escaping the Ohio winters at his home in Hernando, Florida.

Walt was a man of many passions, he was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of White Springs Golf Course in Greenville. He also loved fishing and hunting, and was a steadfast fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, loyally cheering them on through every season.

A private family burial will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery.
